When I try to be funny, Freygore Numbus is usually the end result. One of my first readers of this story was a child psychologist whose reaction was pretty much, “What the…” Needless to say, poor Freygore either gets over-analyzed or dismissed as pure perversion. In truth, both are correct. For the analyst all I can say is that Freygore has almost zero plot to his stories, and to the moralist, yes you are correct, Freygore is a pervert. But that’s exactly the point. He represents that little voice of devious intention that we all have now and then, but never act upon. In Freygore’s case he has a secret weapon, a brainwave hidden in his suitcase that can control what you think. It comes in handy for the rascal salesman that he is. Of course, it means other gains as well, like not having to wait in lines, no more speeding tickets, no more bills and, oh yeah, free love. What can I say, he is a toad after all.
